Hiking in the Mountains
Italy abounds in wonderful opportunities for hiking, whether it be day hikes or longer camping hikes. The Italian Alps, not to mention the Appennines offer many places for a good hike in the mountains and a mountain holiday that 
you will cherish for many years. The are many starting places for hiking in the mountains, in particular the Alps, that in themselves have mountain hikes. In the east is the fascinating city of Torino which is the perfect place to make make day trips to hike in the mountains or, if you wish, to hike more extensively in the Italian Alps. Since Torino in itself is such an interesting place, it is a perfect place to make the center of your mountain holiday. Should you prefer a lake setting, the entire area around Lake Como and Lago Maggiore is perfect for mountain holidays that can include hiking in the mountains around the lakes.
The same can be said of Lago di Garda where the lovely town of Trento is a good jumping off point for hiking in the surrounding mountains. Nearby is the Adige River that flows from the Italian Alps and is itself a challenging hike in the mountains as you follow its course northwards. No mountain holiday in the Italian Alps should be without a hike in those mountains. Up the river there is the interesting city of Bolzano which you can use as a base for many mountain day hikes as well as longer forays into the Alps and the Italian Dolomites. The finest mountain hiking in Italy and the most beautiful of mountain holidays may be enjoyed all along the northern borders of Italy.
